Skill Development Training

About the Program

Previously known as the Education, Mobility, Employability, and Training Program, EMET is a cornerstone of Help The Blind Foundation’s work to empower visually impaired college students through structured skill development, digital inclusion, and career readiness.

The EMET program is designed to bridge the gap between education and employment for students with visual impairment. While academic qualifications are essential, students often face barriers related to digital access, mobility, communication, and workplace preparedness.

EMET addresses these gaps through a structured, multi-year training model that combines technology access, skill development, experiential learning, and industry exposure — enabling students to transition with confidence into professional environments.

Technology Assistance & Digital Access

Access to technology is fundamental to independence and learning. As part of EMET, the Foundation has distributed essential assistive and digital tools to support inclusive education:

  • 300 laptops to enable academic work, assessments, and digital participation
  • 100 Aura Vision Glasses to support enhanced visual access
  • 210 Smart Vision Glasses to enable independent reading and navigation

These interventions ensure that students can participate meaningfully in academic and training environments alongside their sighted peers.

Structured Training & Curriculum

To ensure consistency, quality, and measurable outcomes, EMET follows a structured training framework:

  • A four-level curriculum aligned to student readiness and progression
  • Offline assessments conducted in 14 cities, ensuring accessibility and rigour
  • A dedicated Training of Trainers (ToT) program to strengthen delivery quality across regions
  • Introduction of an Aptitude & Attitude Competency Gauge to assess preparedness
  • A Bridge Course designed to address learning gaps before advanced training

Resource Centers & Capability Enhancement

To deepen impact and provide sustained support, Empowerment and Skill Development Resource Centres have been established in various cities such as Chennai, Bangalore, Nashik, Thanjavur and more. These centres serve as hubs for assistive technology access, structured training, assessments, and mentoring.

In addition, the Capability Enhancement Program, launched in Chennai and Nagpur, offers industry-supported training modules focused on employment readiness and role-specific skills.
